Car Show Strobing with a Paul C Buff Einstein Strobe
all your testing

For a higher resolution & COMPLETE video, check out this video on my YouTube page:

Equipment: DSLR, tripod, strobe, battery pack for strobe, strobe trigger, light modifier, boom arm, wireless camera trigger. Setup: I put my camera on a tripod. My camera has a strobe trigger in the hot shoe and a wireless camera receiver/trigger on the side of the camera. I’m using a single Einstein 640WS strobe which is attached to the end of my boom arm, this helps me to position the light over the vehicle and gives me the ability to stand away from the car as far as possible. I have a wireless camera trigger in my hand and away I shoot.
So most car shows that I have been to are during the worst part of the day…NOON, bright sunlight and usually no cloud coverage. But no problem ! I find a vehicle I really like, setup the tripod, secure my DLSR on the tripod and frame up my shot. I focus on something near the front of the vehicle, or close to the camera, when I nail the focus, then I switch autofocus to manual. The camera doesn’t need to re-focus for every shot, it’s already set one time. Camera settings are usually shutter ~1/250 sec (max flash sync speed, although I have gotten away with 1/320 without the shutter lag/black stripe in my image) the faster the shutter speed, the darker the ambient lighting, right ? So the background darkness is your preference. Aperture setting has to be quite lower then I want, and I set it at f/4 minimum. I haven’t tried f/8 or higher yet, so I’ll probably try some new things this weekend, i got a couple of car shows I’m going to here locally. It’s all about trying new things and learning what works and what doesn’t. Getting back to the shutter speed, we both know that 1/250 sec will not get the ambient dark enough (maybe that works for you ?), but to make things even darker I typically use a 3-stop ND filter to block even more light (I guess this give the appearance of shooting at night, things get really dark). You can screw in your 3-stop ND filter and still use auto focus on bright sunny days. I have even filter stacked a 2-stop ND filter on top of my 3-stop ND filter, but lately I just stick to the 3-stop since it gives me favorable results, but you can try it out on your own and see if it’s something you like. Your couple of shots will be "test shots" and you’ll have to adjust flash power your your aperture from blowing the highlights out. You are going to take quite a few shots of the car, because your light modifier will not cover large areas, I usually have the strobe anywhere from 4 to 6 feet away on average, but I’m still new at this and getting a better "feel" of where things need to be in my setup/process. The more images you take, then the better your post-processing will be as you will have more choices in lighting to blend. It’s funny, my car strobing started with strobing flowers and statues, but I was curious one day about strobing a car and how it would turn out, unfortunately I used my off camera flash and softbox and found out that it was not enough flash power and that the softbox diffuser had actually reduce my light power by 1-stop. It’s all trial and error. Practice, practice, practice ! Learn and try new things.

Other thoughts and additional remarks (things I’m learning along the way):
My first few shots are actually without the flash on. I shoot 2 frames at 1/250s & 1/320s. One of these frames will serve as the "base image" or bottom layer in Photoshop. Just make sure that no person is standing in the background, if you can help it. It should be a clean shot with nothing moving in the background, but sometimes you can’t help it. This image will help set the tone for the ambient lighting level.
It’s sometimes OK if people are walking around the car, just as long as they don’t get between the camera and the area of the car you’re lighting. I always expect people and have had people walk right in front of my camera as I’m shooting. They have no idea what I’m doing and if there’s no one behind the camera, then they think you’re not taking pictures. Just expect that to happen, after all, it’s a car show with lots of people.
In addition to lighting the car, I find it adds more appeal to the image if you light up the asphalt or grass around the car and especially at the corners of the vehicle. I’m finding out that you can have a better image where the car naturally blends into the ground surface, otherwise you’ll end up with an image that looks badly vignetted.
You have to light up the interior of the vehicle, this really makes the image pop ! Just place your light right up to the window and fire away, and take several shots at different angles into the car. Shoot the interior of the car from both sides of the vehicle. It’s OK if you’re standing right at the window, just make sure your body doesn’t get between the camera and the interior.
It really helps to have an assistant help you out. By them standing at the tripod/camera, then most people will avoid walking into your shots, and they always have questions as to what I’m doing. Your assistant can show your portfolio to them to see the final images you’re trying to create. It absolutely baffles non-photographers of what images you can create it bright sunlight and using a strobe. Plus your assistant can help you carry equipment to the next car.
I found out that using the diffusion sock over my beauty dish was reducing my flash output, so I don’t use it.
Shoot the same spot of the vehicle but from different angles. This is because sometime you’ll find out that the light source shows up as a bright reflection of the surface of the car. You can use Photoshop "magic" to sometimes "erase" these unwanted reflections, but I’m still learning about how to eliminate or reduce this in the field.
The color of the car makes a big difference to flash output ! White cars tend to blow out easier, so lower the flash output. Black is impossible to show up at all, so I usually will think about doing a B&W image of it, especially if it has alot of chrome, Shows up good as a B&W image. You will find this out on your own.
Going back to the people and objects moving in the background…I found out recently with an image where there were people sitting behind the car and when I tried to bring in the lighted portion that I had ghosting come through, but I could fix it by making my brush size smaller with a higher hardness on the brush. Avoiding this situation all together is your call. I’m sure you’ll run into this problem at some point.
From Lightroom you’ll bring in all the images you want to stack in Photoshop by using the "edit in…edit images as layers in photoshop" selection. Once in Photoshop, all your images should be in one file, and then you should align the images by using edit…auto-align images.
Be aware of the sun ducking in and out of the clouds if the situation arises. Your light levels obviously won’t match from exposure to exposure. But I don’t think it’s a show stopper, you can adjust for that in post.
I haven’t tried shooting with a polarizer, not sure what it will do, but will try to see if it has any effect. Maybe it could eliminate or reduce the light from reflecting off the surface of the car ?

Here’s what I use:
1.) Nikon D800
2.) Nikkor 24-70 f/2.8 lens
2.) Really Right Stuff tripod
3.) Wireless camera trigger […]
4.) 3-stop B&W ND filter []
5.) Elinchrom Boom Arm []
6.) Einstein 640WS strobe
7.) CST-2 CyberSync Trigger
8.) Vagabond Mini Lithium battery pack (I actually have 4 of them now)
9.) 22" beauty dish (Paul C. Buff)
10.) Photoshop (any version)

Of course the real magic happens in Photoshop by bringing all the exposures together, but I’d have to show you or you might be able to check out some videos on YouTube on how to blend exposures together. I’ve posted some video links in my earlier images online.

Give it try and ask me anything along the way. I think it would be cool to help someone and actually see their automotive photography go to the "next level", for me photography is just a hobby so I don’t mind passing along information, so I don’t mind help a fellow photographer (and automotive photographer at that !) how I shoot and process my photos. It’s all about learning.

Sorry I haven’t been around to comment anyone’s stream much. I just haven’t been digging Flickr lately.

A couple days ago I turned 16. Woohoo! Now I just have to convince my parents that I need to take my driving test ASAP… For my birthday I got a new keyboard. It’s got a whole 88 keys and it’s a beast. If you turn it all the way up and play loudly on it, it blows your mind. Like it literally blows your mind and you have to take a 5 minute break just to recover from its awesomeness.

So this weekend I headed up to the cabin again. No snow, and the lake is in mid-melt. So there’s not much to do. I went to see the USA Cross Country Championships yesterday and that was very cool. A lot of Olympic runners were there and I got to see them dominate all the college kids. It was good stuff.

Grrr… Another controversial stitching job.

Patti Moreno the Garden Girl, tests the water in her pond. Have questions?

How to Test your Pond Water
Hi, I am Patti the garden girl and today we are going to check the pH level of my pond here. It has been sitting for a few weeks and I just want to see where we are at.

I have here a fresh water test kit and it comes complete with a bunch of different tests. Right now I do not have any fish in here so what I want to do is I want to test just the Ph to see whether it is more alkaline or more acidic.

Okay, here is the key pH indicator solution, now what I have to do is I got to take this and now I am going to put three drops. Now, I got to cap it and then just shake it like this. That is already giving me a very, very blue reading, we are going to check this little color card and I am going to say that we are at 7.6.

The next thing we are going to do then since we got the highest reading is the high range indicator solution. This one I am going to put five drops. Now I am going to take my little color card here and put these together. Now, I think that is reading between a 7.4 and a 7.8 roughly.

Now what that exactly means is that my water is more alkaline than it is neutral of than it is acidic. This range right now is a great range for a lot of different types of fresh water fish.

I hope you all will go out and get your own kit and start testing your water, it is a great thing to do with children. I am sure you will be really surprise in how smart your kids actually are if you do get them to do this test with you. I am Patti Moreno the garden girl. Thanks for watching.

As I have effectively lived on a building site for many year I am more than pleased by the fact that the construction phase of the Luas Cross-City tram project is coming to an end. Today they began the testing phase and if everything goes well the new service will become operational in December and I expect to be using it on a daily basis.

There are there are two stops very close to my apartment. My preferred stop is most likely to be the Broadstone-DIT stop because all I need to do to get to it is to pass through Kings Inns park which is close to my front door but the gates to the park are closed at weekends and at night. My second option is the stop on Domnick Street.

It is important to understand that the cross-city service is an extension of the green line rather than a scheme to connect the green and red lines.

The Luas Cross City route is structurally different than the Luas Green or Red Lines. The new route will be a double Luas track at the southern end of the line and will then split into two single tracks to loop around the city centre at College Green. It then returns to a double track from the top of O’Connell Street on to Broombridge.

The single track loop runs from College Green, north up Westmoreland Street across O’Connell Bridge, up O’Connell Street, across Parnell Street (east of O’Connell Street), down Marlborough Street, across the new bridge between Eden and Burgh Quays and south along Hawkins Street and into College Street linking back up at College Green.

The official maps do not make it clear but there will be an interchange at Abbey Street where passengers travelling on the Red Line will get off and walk to O’Connell Street to get on the Luas Cross City or vice versa. This is an important because the new service doesn’t allow for trams to switch between the Red Line and the Green Line. However, it’s a myth that Luas trams can’t transfer between the Green Line and the Red Line but for scheduling reasons trams when in service will not transfer between lines carrying passengers. Light rail systems like the Luas generally work best when there is single high-frequency route that intersects with another single high-frequency route. In other words, two separate line that don’t join because if services are frequent [between 3 and 6 minutes] you have very little delay and the transfer can be largely seamless. It should be noted that Dublin Bus is considering the possibility of introducing a similar approach but I will not discuss it here as it is too complicated.

WHAT IS A GAUGE RUN? The gauge run is the first test for the Luas Cross City system in advance of passenger services commencing in December. In essence, it consists of moving trams at slow speeds (from 5kph up to 10kph); whilst carrying out a range of measurements and verifying that the new infrastructure (tracks and overhead wires) is working with the trams. This test allows the engineering team to check the exact and precise specifications.

The waiting drove me mad
You’re finally here and I’m a mess
I take your entrance back…
Can’t let you roam inside my head

I don’t want to take what you can’t give
I would rather starve than eat your bread
I would rather run but I can’t walk
Guess I’ll lie alone just like before

I’ll take the firmest path
Oh, and I must refuse your test
You push me and I will resist
This behavior’s not unique

I don’t want to hear from those who know
They can buy, but can’t put on my clothes
I don’t want to limp for them to walk
Never would have known of me before

I don’t want to be held in your debt
I’ll pay it off in blood, let I thee wed
I’m already cut up and half dead
I’ll end up alone like I began

Everything has chains
Absolutely nothing’s changed
Take my hand, not my picture
Spilled my tincture

I don’t want to take what you can’t give
I would rather starve than eat your bread
All the things that others want for me
Can’t buy what I want because it’s free
Can’t be what you want because of

Imagine that whatever you looked at… whatever you thought about… whatever you dreamed… whatever you felt…

that an image could be created from that.

A real image.

Stored and transmitted.

Imagine that your eyes are the lenses to that camera.

That your brain is the processor.

And imagine that system working in reverse as well.

Like television…

Over 5000 of you have been visiting my stream now! I much appreciate you popping by and hope you keep enjoying it!

Thanks everybody!

It all began on quite exactly 9:30 PM, when a ship reached a dock with about 10 minutes of delay. I boarded said ship, which brought me all the way into the city. The air was calm and warm, a peaceful evening if it wasn’t for that little voice in the back of my head telling me that I ought to have brought an umbrella. I had hesitated to take it and dismissed the idea as idiotic on a day like this one. Granted, it had been a tad gray, but it had not rained a drop since breakfast. And yet, something bugged me, my intuition told me it had been a mistake. It was undoubtedly right, as intuitions tend to be. Its point then, was illustrated rather well by the shattering bouquet of lightning cutting across the sky just as the boat docked in Zurich, about half an hour later.

Floods were pouring from the sky and dashing across the pavement. I had but one choice, and sought the closest bit of cover. As so often in situations of great mishap, this one lead to something that much better. The closest bit of cover turned out to be the Sternengrill. Now let me explain: Traditional places tend to be quite old, for becoming traditional takes time. Therefore, they are mostly built in ways proper to defeat the test of time. When they outlast the buildings they’re in however, you’d guess they’d offer something rather special for people to be nursing them past the trials of the decades. This is exactly what happened to the Sternen-Grill, the place serving the best-known Bratwurst in town. Even Tina Turner has had one. It has been on Bellvue Platz for almost 50 years and is now being demolished. Or is it? Having lost the location, the owners moved it into an RV parked on the square and this made it… well… almost better, not to say legen – wait for it… – dary!

Mobile Hearing Testing – An Induced Reason for Hearing Loss

all your testing
by ttstam

People who strain to hear in noisy places, at times shuns to hearing appliances as certain signs of ageing. Loss in hearing can be caused for various reasons. One of the major reasons could be the exposure to recreational and occupational noise that results in the devastating disability. This is an aspect that can be actually cured and preventable. The process of noise induced hearing loss is the effect that is second to the impact of Presbycusis, a process of losing the hearing capability with the gradual effect of ageing.
Shear forces that is caused by any kind sound is said to have an impact on the stereocilia, which is basically the hair cells of the basilar membrane of the cochlea. When extreme, these factors occurs, it is even responsible for causing cell death. Keeping away from further noise exposure inherently stops the additional progression of the damage.
The process of noise-induced hearing loss can however be prohibited by the process of shun. Avoiding undue noise and using mobile hearing testing, at the employees working hut will lead to a better management of the hearing issues. Patients who have been continuously open to the elements of excessive noise supposed to be screened. When the aspect hearing loss is assumed, a systematic history, audiometry along with physical examination should be executed. If any of these examinations reveal indication of hearing loss, recommendation for full Audiologic assessment is suggested.
Research has leaded us to the conclusion that noise is possibly the frequent environmental and occupational peril. As many as 30 million of the total population is exposed to potentially detrimental sound levels in their workplaces. Outside work, many people may tail for recreational activities that can fabricate harmful noise. Hence there is actually many forms of noise that leads to the development of hearing problems.
To define the proper definition o noise it can be said that it is an aspect that is described in terms of two major phase, namely:
1. Intensity, which is again perceived as loudness
2. Frequency which is again perceived as pitch
Both the intensity and the period of noise revelation establish the impending for damage to the hair cells of the inner layer of the ear.
An account of the preventive method:
Even though no specific studies have estimated on the effectiveness of educating patients about noise-induced hearing loss, certain occupational health services can easily screen for extreme noise exposure during the health maintenance visits of the employees. It is considered that both adolescents and their parents should be recommended about the hazards of getting exposure to amplified noise pollution. If an affirmative answer is received from the other side then the organization must opt for such measures that would reduce the effect of excess sound and noise to the employee.
Hence certain facets must always be maintained, they are:
* Hearing testing for all your workers within the period of 6 months from hiring
* Hearing testing within every two years after
* Hearing tests for any worker with abnormal hearing

Mark Daniel is an associated employee with Healthy worker for many years. He has been writing about the mobile hearing testing at the occupational areas and believes that best measures in the genre of occupational health services is provided by us.

Is Your Ex Testing You? What You Can Do About It! — Is Your Ex Testing You? What You Can Do About It!

Is your ex testing you? Is he or she trying to mess with your head? In this video, I’m going to answer these questions.

How’s it going everyone? For those of you who haven’t seen my videos… I’m Brad Browning and I’ve been an all-star relationship coach for over 10 years now. My YouTube channel just surpassed the “11 million views” mark, and I’m rapidly approaching 100,000 subscribers. And I have all of you awesome fans to thank for that! Remember, I do my best to reply to most of my YouTube comments, so if you have a question, feel free to hit me up in the comments section below!

Now, before I jump into the goods, I need to make one thing clear: overanalyzing your ex’s behavior is a huge mistake. I’ve dealt with thousands of coaching clients over the past few years and many of these clients tend to overreact every time their ex posts a new picture on Instagram or Facebook. This overanalyzing behavior is toxic and it should be avoided at all cost. If you’ve been watching my other videos on YouTube, then you know that one of the fundamental tenets of my Ex Factor Guide program is the need to shift the power away from your ex. If you want to make your ex fall back in love with you again, you need to create an environment where your ex is chasing YOU, and not the other way around. By obsessively “cyber stalking” your ex and overanalyzing everything he or she does, you’re not only wasting your time, but you’re indirectly hurting your chances of getting your ex back.

That’s not to say that your ex won’t mess with you, or try and “test the waters”, so to speak. If your ex is continuously contacting you, asking you questions, or deliberately introducing drama back into your life, they may be trying to see if you are TRULY over him or her. For instance, if your ex constantly initiates contact with you to stir shit up, then it’s safe to say they may not be over you. They may be trying to provoke a response from you in order to determine how you currently feel about the breakup. But here’s the most important thing to remember: regardless of whether you want to get your ex back or not, the reaction to this behavior should always be the same – and that is to act indifferently. By showing that you don’t care about him or her and the situation, you effectively begin to shift the power from your ex to you.
